Short-Term Goal Setting

When most people think of goal setting, they think in terms of the future. They think of long-term goals. Actually, short-term goals are just as important. All long-term goals are made up of small steps that you have complete to accomplish that goal. These could be considered to be short-term goals. Short-term goals are the things you need to do to be successful in everyday life.

To set goals, you have to actually sit down and evaluate what your goals are. This is especially true for short-term goals. Many people do not take the time for setting goals. They wander aimlessly through their lives and get muddled up in all the details.

The time span for short-term goals can be anywhere from 5 minutes to a year. A short-term goal may be to lose 2 pounds in a week, to increase your business sales in a month, or even to sell your home in under a year. All of these are short-term goals that are made up of more tiny steps.

When you define your goals, and actually write down what it will take to achieve them, you know where to direct your focus. You have a clearer mental picture of what has been done and what still needs to be done. This makes achieving goals much more likely.

How to Set Goals

  1. To set any goal, you must write it down. When you can look at your short-term goals on paper they become much more concrete.

  2. Sit with this goal in mind for a few minutes. Brainstorm what it will take to get it accomplished. Some of the results of this will be the actual steps it takes to achieve your goals, or tinier short-term goals.

  3. From there, think about the things you have to do on a daily basis. A lot of people don't realize it, but these are short-term goals in themselves.

  4. Write out your daily “to-do” list for the next day each night before bed. Keep both your short-term goals and your long term goals in mind while you're making this list.

  5. Try to keep the list realistic. Do not try to cram too much into one day. That just sets you up for failure and discouragement. And remember, even though some of the things on your list may not get accomplished each day, more of them will be achieved because of your setting goal efforts.

These are just a few small things you can do to set goals. There are, on the market, books that can help you in setting goals as well. And there's goal setting software as well. All of these tools can help you in setting goals and goal achievement.

Many people, however, get stumped on how to get through their daily tasks even though they know what they need to do in order to achieve their goals. In other words, to achieve goals sometimes it's more important to have time management skills and focus than in setting goal parameters.

Do you have five minutes each day that you can set aside in order to achieve your goals? If there were a way for you to increase your success rate of achieving your tasks each and every day would you take an extra five minutes to do it? If you said yes to either one of these questions then keep on reading because here is a method which works for 98.99% of the people who try it. They do it diligently and are persistent in their efforts.
