Using Anti Cellulite Cream and Cellulite
Lotion
Cellulite is that unsightly ‘orange peel’ appearance
you find on upper legs, thighs, stomachs and upper arms of women. It is caused by the inappropriate storage of fat
from microvascular damage as well as increased fluid and lymphatic retention. Almost a right of sisterhood, an anti
cellulite cream, treatments and therapies are sought by women around the globe.
Open a women’s magazine or walk into a spa and you’ll
find a cellulite lotion or anti cellulite cream advertisement that promise to reduce the cottage cheese look on the
skin that causes distress to so many.
The best anti cellulite cream has either caffeine or
aminophylline (both dehydrating) and retinal or DMAE as special ingredients to help reduce the appearance of
cellulite. In theory the caffeine, or aminophylline, will dehydrate the skin making it tighter and firmer. This
will decrease the appearance of the cellulite, at least temporarily. The effect will remain and possibly improve as
the user continues to apply the anti cellulite cream.
According to a study by Neutrogena, 70% of women claim
to have visible cellulite. This number is over 85% if you ask other researchers or physicians. More women than men
have the problem because women have risk factors that men do not. One of these factors is having thinner skin.
Also, estrogen and progesterone affect the way fat is stored and how cellulite is formed.
Trying to mimic the effects of machines used in
expensive spas, some women have gone so far as to use vacuum cleaners over their bodies to ‘suck’ the fat cells
out, but without success.
Retinol or revitol
cellulite cream is supposed to work by penetrating the skin and increasing collagen production, which makes the
skin thicker. If the skin is thicker then the dimpling caused by the fat tissue won’t be as visible, but it won’t
decrease the amount of fat in the subcutaneous tissue, which is the cellulite. Other products work at
increasing blood circulation which can aid in flowing the fat cells away.
The trouble with the revitol theory is that the exact
amount of retinol needed to accomplish this task isn’t known and there aren't yet any standardized methods of
measuring cellulite. Thus measurement during research is rather difficult if not impossible. There are some newer
products available, however, that guarantee results.
Other anti cellulite creams use DMAE or
dimethylaminoethanol, an antioxidant extracted from fish, that supposedly stimulates the muscles to become firmer
and hide the appearance of cellulite.
Doctors recommend that if patients want to try a
cellulite cream, they should first try one with a money-back guarantee or an inexpensive one and use it for eight
weeks. If it hasn’t worked by then, it probably won’t.
Some physicians recommend that women learn to accept
cellulite as a normal part of their bodies. But the thing is, those doing the recommending are probably men and not
the women who have the problem.
